Job Description

The Role

The UK Cashiering team sits within our Europe, Middle East and Asia (EMEA) Treasury function, reporting into the Cashier Team Leader. The UK Cashiering team is the Cashier Team Leader and two Legal Cashiers.

Cashiers are responsible for managing NRF UK’s cash receipting processes in accordance with the SRA Accounts Rules with some coverage provided for NRF’s non-UK EMEA offices. The Legal Cashier – Office (this role) is responsible for the day-to-day handling of the UK office bank accounts with cover provided for the Client accounts and supporting the Cashier Team Leader with other ad hoc activities.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

Execution, Reporting and Review

Ensure client money is handled appropriately and in accordance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules
Accurately allocate office and client receivables to the correct nominal or client matter code
Accurately perform bill reversals and reallocations
Identify and resolve any discrepancies in financial records
Update the breach log with any breaches of the Solicitor Accounts Rules and NRF’s SRA policies
Ensure all payment instructions are signed off in accordance with Norton Rose Fulbright’s mandate
Process large value, urgent CHAPS, international payments, cash transfers and other payment types
Prepare daily and month end bank reconciliations of office and client bank accounts ensuring they are signed off in accordance with the Solicitor Account Rules
Review and analyse client accounts to identify residual client balances
Follow company policy and procedures to ensure residual client balances are returned promptly
Ensure all client cash including cheque receipts are banked promptly
Maintain good record-keeping processes and carrying out general filing
Assist Cashier Team Leader with any ad-hoc tasks as required

Support

Where necessary liaise directly with credit management and compliance to ensure that funds are allocated in a timely manner according to the Solicitor Accounts Rules
Learn the Client account cashier role to ensure the team has additional cover for holidays and sickness
Maintain good communication with Partners and Fee Earners as to the status of client completion transactions
Provide support in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures

Skills and Experience Required

The individual should:

Have a thorough understanding of the Solicitors Accounts Rules (Essential)
Enjoy working collaboratively with a team, taking full ownership of individual deliverables
Be self-motivated and self-disciplined, passionate about delivering continuous improvement with a customer service mindset
Have outstanding communication skills, able to effectively operate across teams and influence key stakeholders
Be a good problem solver with a process orientated mindset, methodical in approach with an “eye for detail”
Ability to work under pressure, operating flexibly to cope with conflicting demands

Experience required for the role:

Minimum of 2 years of cash management experience in an international business or similar role (required)
Excel and other Microsoft tools (required)
Educated to a degree level (beneficial)
Worked with a SAP financial system (beneficial)
