Vehicle Technician

We are seeking a skilled Vehicle Technician to join our Fleet and Passenger Transport Service team. This role is crucial for maintaining the council’s fleet of vehicles, plant, and equipment, ensuring they are in top condition through inspection, servicing, test preparation, fault diagnosis, and repair.

Day-to-day of the role:
Carry out vehicle, plant, and equipment inspections, servicing, test preparation, fault diagnostics, maintenance, and repair, which constitutes 80% of the role.
Complete all written or computerised vehicle and job sheet records on completion of work, including descriptions of work carried out, parts used, and time taken.
Interpret information received from drivers and users of plant and equipment, give advice on actions to be taken, and provide feedback on the work completed.
Perform miscellaneous tasks associated with the role.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Mandatory MOT Tester Certificate.
High level of communication and listening skills.
Health & safety training relevant to a vehicle maintenance workshop environment.
Proficient in using Workshop ICT systems, vehicle diagnostic tools, and electronic job cards.
Ability to trace, diagnose and repair vehicles, plant, and equipment faults, including the identification of parts and equipment required.
Ability to accurately record work done and complete job sheets.
At least one of the following qualifications: Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) approved apprenticeship, Level 3 qualification in light/heavy vehicle or plant engineering (City & Guilds Part II, BTEC National, ONC/D or similar).
Full current driving licence and ability to drive all vehicle and plant types up to 32T GVM (Class C LGV licence preferred).
Experience in servicing vehicles, plant, and equipment including fault diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
