Location: Buckhurst Hill, Essex
Job Type: Full-time
Shift Pattern: Monday-Friday 7:30 – 17:00 & Every Other Saturday 8-1
Salary Range: £28,500 – £31,500 per year DOE + Bonus and Commission Schemes

Join the team as a Trade Counter Operative and become a key player in delivering excellent customer service and support at a family-owned independent merchant. This role is perfect for someone who is enthusiastic, proactive, and customer-focused, ready to be the first point of contact for our customers at the trade counter.

Day-to-day of the role:

Greet and serve customers at the trade counter in a friendly and professional manner.
Provide customers with product information, technical advice, and quotations tailored to their needs.
Process customer sales orders accurately and efficiently.
Handle customer inquiries and resolve any issues or complaints promptly and effectively.
Stay informed about the products we offer and any current promotions.
Ensure the trade counter area is well-stocked, organised, and visually appealing.
Assist in accurately picking and safely loading customer orders.
Assist in unloading supplier deliveries and checking the accuracy of the delivery in terms of product, amount, and condition.
Work with the warehouse and delivery teams to ensure timely fulfilment of customer orders.
Uphold company health and safety standards within the branch.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Experience in a retail or trade counter environment, preferably within plumbing, heating, DIY, or builders’ merchant sectors.
Strong customer service skills with the ability to build rapport with customers.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of sanitaryware, plumbing, heating, and building products.
A team player who takes pride in their work and is eager to grow into the next role.
A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
