Venn Group’s specialist legal team is currently working with a well-regarded Local Authority in the Midlands to recruit a Locum Commercial Team Leader/Solicitor. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced commercial lawyer with management capability to take on a strategic role, providing high-level legal guidance and oversight within a supportive team.

The Role:

Position: Locum Commercial Team Leader/Solicitor
Rate: Up to £80 per hour (Umbrella), depending on experience
Duration: Initial 3–6 months, with the potential for extension
Location: Midlands – Hybrid working (occasional office attendance desirable)
Hours: Full-time

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage a legal team
Advise on a broad range of commercial matters, including Procurement, Waste Contracts, Construction, Partnership Agreements, and Shared Services
Provide clear, strategic legal advice to senior stakeholders across the Council
Draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements
Engage with external partners and internal senior leadership
Support training of apprentices

About You:

Significant experience as a Commercial Lawyer, ideally within Local Government or the wider public sector
Previous team management or supervision experience is highly desirable
Expertise in procurement and commercial contract matters, including construction
Conveyancing experience is desirable but not essential
Comfortable with a hybrid working model and occasional in-office presence
