Project detail

Churchill Howard are delighted to be working with a leading UK business on a newly-created, high-impact opportunity.

Operating at the heart of national development – across sectors such as healthcare, education, justice, and the environment – this organisation combines long-standing industry presence with a forward-thinking approach to compliance, governance, and operational excellence.

We are recruiting for an Internal Auditor – Central Functions, a role that offers genuine scope to influence internal controls, shape audit practices, and contribute to business-wide risk assurance.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a company that’s not just delivering essential projects across the UK – but setting the standard for how they’re delivered.

The role will involve:

Leading the internal audit programme across central functions (Finance, HR, IT, Procurement, Commercial).

Supporting audits at business unit and project level, based on a risk-prioritised audit plan.

Delivering clear, insightful reporting to drive functional and operational improvements.

Supporting compliance with the Integrated Management System and ISO standards across Quality, Environment, Health & Safety, and Information Security.

Identifying and analysing trends in audit outcomes, and advising on corrective/preventative actions.

Supporting wider governance and bid activity, as well as forensic and supply chain audits where required.

What we’re looking for:

3 years+ of experience in internal / external audit, ideally within a large, multisite or regulated business.

A recognised degree in a relevant discipline.

Ideally some knowledge of ISO standards and business management systems.

Experience in risk-based auditing and root cause analysis.

Excellent communication skills – confident influencing a range of stakeholders, from site teams to senior leaders.

A naturally analytical, detail-focused mindset with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach.

Someone who is motivated by improvement, challenge, and driving tangible change

Why this is a career-defining move:

This is a chance to step into a high-visibility role at the centre of a complex, fast-paced organisation – leading audit activity that supports better decision making and drives continuous improvement. You’ll gain broad exposure across core functions and play a pivotal role in enhancing operational resilience and assurance.

You’ll be rewarded with:

A competitive salary and car allowance

Private medical cover (with optional family upgrade)

Generous holidays (plus buy/sell scheme)

Defined contribution pension scheme

Volunteering days, enhanced family leave, and professional development support

Hybrid working is offered (minimum 2 days per week in the Birmingham office), with occasional travel to regional sites.

Applicants of all ages and backgrounds with the relevant skills and experience are encouraged to apply. Churchill Howard acts in its capacity as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and an employment business for temporary recruitment.
