Domestic Abuse Helpline & Intake Worker

Hourly Rate: £17.79 PAYE
Location: Wakefield

Join the Wakefield District Domestic Abuse Service as a Domestic Abuse Helpline & Intake Worker. This vital role serves as the first point of contact for victims of domestic abuse, providing immediate support and coordination of safety responses. The position requires a compassionate individual who can assess risk and needs efficiently while working within a multi-agency framework to deliver high-quality support.

Day-to-day of the role:

Serve as the first point of contact for victims of domestic abuse through the helpline and referral intake.
Triage referrals to assess the level of risk and immediate needs of the caller.
Coordinate immediate safety responses and interventions for individuals at high risk.
Work collaboratively with a multi-agency team including social services, healthcare providers, and law enforcement to ensure comprehensive support.
Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions and interventions.
Provide emotional support and guidance to victims, helping them understand their options and next steps.
Stay updated with current legislation and best practices in domestic abuse support.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Proven experience in a support role for vulnerable individuals, preferably in a domestic abuse context.
Strong understanding of the dynamics and impacts of domestic abuse.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Experience in risk assessment and crisis intervention.
Ability to work effectively within a multi-agency setting.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to safeguarding protocols.
Relevant training or qualifications in social work, counselling, or a related field is desirable.
