Interim Financial Controller

Interim Financial Controller – Building Sector SME – Sheffield

c£60,000 pro rata | 3–6 Month Contract | Immediate Start

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Financial Controller to join a friendly, well-established SME in the building sector, based in Sheffield. With a turnover of approximately £12 million, this business is known for its collaborative culture and strong local reputation.

This is a 3–6 month interim role to cover for absence, offering an immediate start and a competitive salary of circa £60,000 pro rata.

Key Responsibilities

As Interim FC, you will lead a small finance team and take full ownership of the finance function, including:

Overseeing all financial reporting, including monthly management accounts and board packs
Managing cash flow, forecasting, and budgeting
Ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal controls
Managing VAT returns, and HMRC submissions
Supporting operational teams with financial insights and decision-making
Monitoring and reporting on WIP (Work in Progress) and job costing
Improving financial processes and systems where needed

About You

We’re looking for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with:

Proven experience in an SME environment, ideally within the building sector or a WIP-led business
Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage and mentor a small team
Hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail
Ability to hit the ground running and work independently
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
