My client, a large reputable trade association based in Hertfordshire, is currently recruiting for a Director of Membership

The Role of Director of Membership

A senior leadership role responsible for developing and delivering member relationship strategies and subscription propositions across the UK, ensuring they align with organisational strategy and meet the needs of the end user. Contribute to the overall performance of the organisation by helping to shape and deliver directorate-level objectives in line with the wider strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy Development & Delivery: Design and implement strategies to recruit and retain members across the UK.

Subscription Proposition Development: Ensure membership and subscription offerings remain relevant to end users, leveraging both in-house capabilities and external partnerships.

Member Satisfaction: Lead efforts to deliver outstanding service and satisfaction through member-facing teams.

Member Insight: Act as the voice of the member, ensuring the organisation effectively supports its member base.

Budget Responsibility: Set and manage the membership budget, delivering against agreed financial targets.

Governance Support: Lead on relevant committee and board reporting to gain support for membership strategies.

Team Performance: Deliver both individual and team objectives, aligned to organisational values.

People Leadership: Inspire and manage the team through effective leadership and performance management practices.

Devolved Nations Engagement: Collaborate with regional leadership to shape policy and practice, ensuring consistent communication and support across all UK nations.

Essential Criteria

Significant membership and commercial experience at a senior sales management level.

Proven experience of operating as a business leader, not solely as a functional specialist.

Strong leadership qualities, with demonstrable skills in strategic thinking, commercial awareness, budgetary control, change management, influencing, and collaboration.

Substantial experience in leading, inspiring, and managing teams, particularly during periods of strategic and operational change.

Excellent relationship-building, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to adapt style and delivery to suit different audiences.

Highly effective in working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Strong project management skills, underpinned by high levels of commercial and business acumen.

Outstanding communication and influencing abilities, with adaptable delivery based on audience needs.

Desirable Criteria

Strong relationship and stakeholder management skills, with the flexibility to adjust approach for the long-term benefit of the organisation.

Experience of, and ability to thrive in, high-pressure environments with conflicting demands, effectively managing workload and delivering results.
